Fracture Geometry Modification

This technology modifies hydraulic fracture growth profile by placing stress fields that cause an artificial fracture barrier affect thereby redirecting the fracture growth. US Patent 7,032,671 describes the technology.

As shown in the patent document, there are a number of different ways to build these hydraulic fracture induced stress fields and their magnitude. This is a method to stop unwanted fracture growth into undesirable formations such as water productive intervals. It is also a method to modify the hydraulic fracture growth profile to maximize the lateral contact with the pay interval.
