Integrated Optimization Studies
Horizontal Wells
A horizontal well optimization study typically requires a sound vertical well study as a starting point. IPT has performed many horizontal well screening and optimization studies in many different areas. Some of these studies were the basis for the first stimulation approaches applied to horizontal wells in those plays (e.g., the Bakken play) and others started as vertical well studies and ended with IPT recommending horizontal application (e.g., the Cleveland play in the Texas Panhandle).
These studies focus on the reservoir drainage character, lateral orientation, length, entry point spacing and fracture stimulation approach. Recommendations are based on economic optimization profiles derived from reservoir models that match the actual responses in the field. Because the integrated process works to provide significantly improved production response, these studies have been used as justification to dramatically change the horizontal completion approach.
The success of a horizontal well project is application specific and necessitates appropriate stimulation specialist expertise in the field. IPT has the experience to help you close this loop to optimize your results.
