Reservoir Engineering
DFIT Analysis
At IPT a Diagnostic Fracture Injection Test, DFIT, is considered a reservoir engineering problem. IPT analyzes both the pre-closure and post-closure pressure response and generally gets consistent values from the two different analysis techniques. The analysis of these diagnostics are expedited to include the observations in the upcoming stimulation treatment implementation.
The post-closure pressure data is analyzed with a classical pressure transient analysis approach. The flow regimes that occur as the pressure history transitions from an open to closed fracture response are identified and noted. The parameters derived from this approach are typically similar to that observed with post-treatment production and pressure transient analysis.
Approximately 7 years ago, IPT evaluated internally a significant number of water injections in many formations and calibrated FracproPT for use in the pre-closure analysis to give a consistent permeability as that observed with the production response. Because we use a calibrated fracture model in this process, we believe our pre-closure analysis approach to be relatively accurate. |
